Southern Conservation Trust is the only community land trust protecting nature for people and wildlife in the fast-growing Southern Crescent, today and for future generations.

Our Goals
  • Maintain, monitor & enhance the conservation properties we manage & own
  • Be an effective & respected community partner to protect special places
  • Educate the public concerning nature & environmental issues
  • Protect and preserve land

How Southern Conservation Trust Protects Natural Areas
  • Accepts land donations, manages and enhances conservation property for water quality, wildlife habitat, environmental education and passive recreation
  • Holds Conservation Easements – voluntary legal agreement to permanently preserve land for public benefit while offering landowners financial benefits such as deductions to income, property and estate taxes
  • Builds support for greenspace protection through community educational programs and presentations on local nature at our conservation properties and in our Nature Center

How the Trust Protects Nature in Your Community
  • Informs communities, local government and landowners in the Southern Crescent about the benefits and tools to protect greenspace as our region develops
  • Works with property owners who wish to preserve their land’s natural beauty through a conservation easement
  • Partnering with Chattahoochee Hill Country Conservancy in a Pilot Study to protect 3 special properties in rural South Fulton
  • Continue our monthly nature programs with expert speakers on wildlife, environmental issues and information about our natural world
  • We’re growing our Conservation Program and ensuring long term land stewardship by increasing our donor base and establishing strong community partnerships
Working together, we can protect nature for people and wildlife in the Southern Crescent, today and for future generations.

Southern Conservation Trust is growing
Southern Conservation Trust was founded by a small group of concerned citizens in 1993 who wished to protect environmentally sensitive land in their community.  The Trust has grown since then, thanks to the support of the local residents, civic partnerships and foundation grants.  Here are some accomplishments during the past several years:   the Trust now

  • Distributes newsletters to 2000 households
  • Hosts public nature programs; sponsor volunteer work days at our preserves
  • Tripled our membership in each of the past 2 years
  • Finalized 1st Conservation Easement in Clayton County
