Southern Conservation Trust (the Trust) is a nonprofit community land trust founded in 1993 in Peachtree City, Georgia. The Trust is preserving a legacy of land in the Southern Crescent of Metro Atlanta:  the counties of Fayette, Coweta, Clayton and rural South Fulton and in the Upper Flint River basin.

Our Mission: to protect, maintain, and enhance, for public use, the beautiful natural areas entrusted to our care and to provide environmental education, wildlife habitat interpretation, and opportunities for recreation in the great outdoors.

The Trust currently owns, manages and protects approximately 1,300 acres of environmentally unique lands – doubling our conservation portfolio since 2005.  Three Nature Areas in Fayette County are open to the public where we provide educational programs on nature and offer hiking trails.

Sams Lake Bird Sanctuary, a restored open wetland habitat on Old Senoia Rd south of Fayetteville, just opened to the public in September 2008. It’s a wonderful place to bird watch and see deer and beaver.

The Trust is currently working with the Georgia Forestry Commission and Metro Atlanta foundations to create a public reforestation demonstration preserve on Morgan Grove, a 60 acre property near the Flint River.

Southern Conservation Trust protects community greenspace by accepting land donations from generous conservation donors and by holding conservation easements on private property.

The Trust holds conservation easements in South Fulton, Fayette, and Meriwether County that permanently limit development and protect natural resources on private property.  In 2008 we are working with landowners in South Fulton and Upson County. With the U.S. Congress and the Georgia legislature’s recent approval of increased tax benefits for those who donate land or an easement to a land trust, Southern Conservation expects to further increase its acreage of protected greenspace in 2008 and 2009.

For more information on donating land or a conservation easement to the Trust, and the tax benefits available, please click here.

Southern Conservation Trust believes all families should have access to natural areas nearby.  Community greenspace provides home for wildlife, offers outdoor fun, cleans our air and water, increases the value of our homes, and makes our communities better places to live.

We’re proud to have the support of our donors, local businesses, and area foundations.  Together, we can preserve a legacy of land for the future.

Won’t you join us?  Donate today, and stay up-to-date on the greenspace we’re protecting for future generations.
