| Flat Creek Nature Area is a 513-acre wetland in Peachtree City that extends 3.5 miles along Flat Creek, from the Lake Peachtree spillway at Kelly Drive/McIntosh Trail downstream to Highway 74. Southern Conservation Trust has installed soft trails, a 1200 foot boardwalk and a viewing platform with benches.
The boardwalk can be reached by the nature trail starting beside the Fred Brown Amphitheater or from the Peachtree City cart path. A walk on the boardwalk reveals trees and plants typical of a Piedmont forested wetland, including red maples, chestnut oak, American hornbeam and other native plants — ferns, cardinals flower and turtlehead. Numbered markers on the boardwalk indicate tree species and you will find a Wetlands Guide brochure in the information box next to the front door of the Trust office, on the right side of 201 McIntosh Trail.
An additional viewing platform has been constructed beside the cart path south of Crosstown Road, thanks to the Peachtree City Rotary Club and Eagle Scout Kenneth Scott Molleson. The Howard Morgan Wetland and Nature Observation Deck is named in honor of former Peachtree City Mayor Howard Morgan.
Fayette County Water Authority provided funding for the boardwalk.

Line Creek Nature Area is a 70-acre public preserve along Line Creek stretching from Highway 54 downstream to the property owned by Fayette County for the future Lake McIntosh. The Creek offers a mix of slow-moving water through bottomland hardwoods to fast water over rock outcrops. Visitors will enjoy a fishing dock on a small pond, a gazebo and several miles of nature trails. Local Boy Scouts and members of the Peachtree City Rotary Club have helped furnish the park with picnic tables, small bridges, a rock amphitheater and a kiosk. Funding for these various projects was provided by Husky and Home Depot.
Guidelines for visitors to the Line Creek Nature Area:
Hours for the Nature Area are dawn to dusk.
No motorized vehicles are allowed.
Dogs must be leashed and litter removed from trails.
The rock outcroppings on the Creek Trail can be slippery – use caution.
The preserve may be used for gatherings at no cost, on a first come, first served basis.

Sams Lake is a 56.5-acre parcel south of Fayetteville between Highway 85 and Old Senoia Road that was donated to the Trust by the Ferrol Sams family. Thanks to a project managed by the City of Atlanta, wetlands are currently being re-established on an old lake bed that was drained years ago. Wetland plants will be installed and a series of dikes will allow the water level to be adjusted to attract migrating and nesting birds. Once this project is complete, in 2006, the preserve will open to the public as the Sams Lake Bird Sanctuary. The Sams Lake restoration will provide a great educational resource for the Trust to demonstrate the process of restoring wetlands and illustrate the importance of wetlands to maintaining water quality and wildlife habitat. Watch this website for the announcement of the Grand Opening.
Bay Branch Conservation Area is a private preserve in Fayetteville. It is a 13.6-acre property donated by the developer of Bay Branch Condominiums and includes a 4-acre meadow (drained pond), 1.6 acres of upland wooded habitat and 8 acres of forested wetland. This property was acquired to protect it from encroachment of the surrounding residential areas, provide wildlife habitat, and buffer adjacent uses.
