Discover Nature: Snakes: Friend or Foe?

On Wednesday, July 20th Southern Conservation Trust is hosting a repeat of our most popular program. Snake Man Jim Rodgers will bring his large collection of live snakes to the Flat Creek Nature Center in Peachtree City. Learn fact from fiction about one of the most misunderstood and persecuted creatures on the planet.

Adults and children will be entertained and educated about these common inhabitants of our back yards. The program will cover snake identification, their habits, and what to do if you find a snake. Jim Rodgers will also dispel the myths about snakes that have been passed down for generations.

The Trust is hosting a series of Nature Discovery programs for families at the Flat Creek Nature Center throughout 2005. Recent program topics have included birding, bats, geology and weather. On August 10th Dr. Richard Greene will share his photos and stories of his canoe trip down the Flint River all the way to Apalachicola Bay.

Southern Conservation Trust is a nonprofit conservation organization based in Peachtree City that owns and manages over 600 acres of nature preserves in Fayette County. the Trust partners with community groups to enhance greenspace with trails and viewing decks. As a land trust, the Trust works with willing landowners to protect scenic open space through legal tools that may provide tax advantages for the landowner.

The Snake program will be held on the back patio of the Flat Creek Nature Center, adjacent to the Frederick Brown amphitheatre at 201 McIntosh Trail in Peachtree City. The program is scheduled for Wednesday July 20th at 7pm, with a rain date Wednesday July 27th. There is a small donation requested to cover the cost of feeding the snakes.
