Work Parties are fun way to improve nature areas

On Saturday November 8th Southern Conservation Trust is hosting the second Work Party of the fall  – and Fayette County citizens are invited.  The scene is Flat Creek Nature Area, adjacent to Frederick Brown amphitheater on McIntosh Trail in Peachtree City.

From 9am to noon volunteers will remove litter from the wetlands, boardwalks and trails that make up the 513 acre nature preserve.  Other activities include re-installing identification signs and spreading mulch, provided by Peachtree City, to refurbish the well –used trails.  Volunteers will also beautify the nearby Nature Center by repairing the post and rail fencing and landscaping.

The most recent Work Party took place at the Line Creek Nature Area, which is also owned by the City of Peachtree City and managed by the Trust.  On Saturday, September 20th, several dozen students and adults enjoyed a beautiful fall day while cutting brush around the public fishing pond, clearing trails and picking up litter.

“Joining a Work Party is a great way to enjoy nature, make new friends and do something good for the community.  Many local residents are not even aware of these nature areas, which are such great amenities to Fayette’s quality of life,” enthuses Abby Jordan,  the Trust’s Executive Director.

Participants at the November 8th activity should bring gloves, and wear long pants, long sleeves and sturdy shoes.  “We could also use wheelbarrows, shovels, and rakes to spread the mulch” requested Jordan.

Drinks, donuts and fruit will be served starting at 9am at the Nature Center.   For more information contact Abby Jordan, 770-486-7774 or a.jordan@sctlandtrust.org.
